Should you be like me, an okay cook but a terrible baker, you will find this Delia Smith bread recipe so easy, you really cannot go wrong with it. I got all the ingredients in Lidl, apart from the pinhead oatmeal.

Ingredients:

275g wholemeal flour

75g plain flour

50g pinhead oatmeal

1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

1.5 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 egg

284ml buttermilk

Porridge oats to sprinkle on top

Preheat fan oven to 180 degrees. Grease a baking tray.

Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Beat the egg and the buttermilk together and then mix it in to the dry ingredients with a wooden spoon. I find the mixture too wet to handle with my hands so I just mix it in the bowl, form it in to a round, and ease on to the baking tray.  Make an X indentation in the top, and sprinkle with a few porridge oats.

Bake in the oven for 40 – 50 mins. You will know its done when a tap on its bottom gives a hollow sound. Turn it out on to a wire rack to cool . Its gorgeous eaten fresh from the oven but even better the next day! And in this house real butter is mandatory.

Hope you enjoy and Happy Easter! xxx
