Happy New Year from Fox Hollow! We are still in full winter mode here, with the stove lit every night and Netflix on 24/7. But hibernating doesn’t stop me from looking forward, keeping an eye on what’s coming next and writing to do lists. If you are seeking some inspiration going forward, how about checking out some of the big brands Colours of The Year for 2020?

Colours of the Year provide us with a great idea of the overall way that schemes and trends are moving and how we will see that reflected in our own homes eventually, even in the subtle ways these colours will come in to homewares products. It becomes so much more than the individual colours, and more about the palettes and tonal ranges that compliment them.

  1. Benjamin Moore

Deciding to embrace the start of a new decade with optimism and an upbeat attitude is the best any of us could hope for , and that’s just what Benjamin Moore have decided to do. ‘First Light’ is a rosy, fresh pink, decidedly uplifting and cheerful. Their whole 2020 Colour palette is compromised largely of zingy pastel shades, chosen to introduce more sunshine to our homes.

2. Pantone

The announcement by Pantone of Classic Blue as the 2020 colour of the year may have come as a bit of a surprise. It may feel like a safe, staid choice after last year’s Living Coral but in fact this familiar blue was chosen as a reassurance heading in to the next decade. It’s a colour that is calming on our psyches and offers us a sense of resilience moving forward ( always welcome in a turbulent world)

3. Tikkurila

We are moving back to pastel shades for the next Colour of the Year, H300 Lemonade by Tikkurila. It’s a zesty, uplifting, positive choice by the Finnish company, and follows on from last year’s bright and cheery Flamingo. The companys ‘Colour Now 2020 Collection’ has paired bright pastels with darker, deeper tones, so you can create colour combinations that bring fresh and modern looks to your home.

4. Dulux

To round off the selection of Colour of the Year choices we have Tranquil Dawn, an enigmatic shade from Dulux. Reminiscent of the outdoors (couldn’t we all do with more of that), it’s designed to sit across a range of palettes, making it suitable for use in any space in your home. I love it paired alongside rich greens and berry shades, but it works just as beautifully with muted, soft tones.
